Brandbridge Labs / Project

Project Tania: AI that has to show its evidence.

Tania looks at how traditional and conventional medicines interact. It is a research-stage prototype, not a medical device and not a substitute for a clinician.

Led by Paul Makwasha, built together with Kupakwashe Mashingaidze.

How Tania works

  1. 1

    An evidence graph decides

A graph database holds documented evidence about how traditional and conventional medicines interact. The interaction risk is decided from that evidence, not from the language model.

  2. 2

    The AI only translates

A language model is constrained to one job: turn the graph's decision into plain language. It is not allowed to add claims of its own.

  3. 3

A safety check watches the model

A code-level check, verified to work, catches the model if it ever tries to present a hypothesis as a proven treatment.

What we’ve done

The record so far

  • Selected speaker

Pan African Youth Conference (PAYCON) 2026, African Union Headquarters, Addis Ababa. Chosen from 300+ applicants on an abstract built on Tania's core idea: harmonizing traditional and conventional medicine using AI graph networks and molecular docking.

    See the selection notice
  • Accelerator shortlist

The Baobab Network. Shortlisted to Stage Two, and the Stage Two application is submitted.

  • Working prototype

Three real demo cases proven, twice, on two machines. Every claim in our applications was checked against the evidence first, which caught and corrected a real species identification error (Artemisia afra vs. Artemisia annua) before it became a false claim.

What we’re doing now

Where things stand

  • Awaiting a decision

The Baobab Network Stage Two application is in review. Review typically takes one to two weeks.

  • Working out the regulatory path

Tania touches medicines, so the pathway with Zimbabwe's medicines regulator (MCAZ) has to be worked out properly. It is still unresolved, and we would rather say so.

  • Looking for support

Funding is the gap. Support lets us keep building, testing and taking Tania to the people who can use it.
